As you know, I discovered classic wet shaving a few years ago. It opened up a completely new world to me—a great journey of discovery. As a result, I have become much more conscious about searching for the perfect razor. Well, I know that the perfect razor does not exist and that it is, of course, a personal matter. But the search for the perfect razor is fun, and it gives you something to talk about with your mates.
By now, I have a whole collection of razor handles standing in a cup. Every few years, you buy another plastic cartridge razor because you keep hearing in the advertisements that the more blades there are, the better, smoother, and faster the shave. And yes, I know that you have to take what those manufacturers say in their commercials with a large grain of salt. It started long ago with two blades, then three, and now there are five blades. I have lost count by now. Well, because shaving used to be no fun for me, I kept buying yet another razor, because according to the advertising, the latest model is better than the one you are currently using. And every time, I fall for it again. I still have an old Wilkinson with two blades, a Bold King, some obscure Chinese brand, and about three Gillette razor handles. My drawer is full of different half-empty cartridges. For my beard, I usually use the Gillette Excel. This Excel has two blades and does not have such a wide border around them. But it remains a struggle. After shaving just once, the hairs get stuck between the blades. You spend more time cleaning it and picking the hairs out from between the blades. Still, you have to make some sacrifices for your beard.
I simply like beautiful things. Both my wife and I think Mühle razors are beautiful. The Mühle Stylo Fusion razor with a thuja wood handle is an eye-catcher. A lovely birthday present for me. On YouTube, I saw a nice video by Mühle about the production of razors and shaving brushes. With great care and attention, they make beautiful luxury shaving products there. Simply top-quality stuff. German thoroughness. I can appreciate that. What is nice about Mühle is that they experiment a lot with design and sustainable materials, such as thuja wood and Masur birch. I also think the Rocca razors are rugged and stylish. Robust design. The Hexagon range is also stunning. Truly masculine design. The handles of the Hexagon razors and shaving brushes have the same shape as bolts and nuts. Very recognizable to the average DIY enthusiast. While browsing the Mühle website, I also came across the Edition series. Wow, those are very expensive shaving brushes and razors. Prices start at €350. A lot of money, but in return you have a unique product on your bathroom shelf. Beautiful shaving products, but slightly above my budget.
In short, I find almost everything beautiful, and I am afraid that I will soon be buying more razors. The bathroom shelf will soon be full of shaving gear, much to my wife’s annoyance.
