It's always fun to dive into your sales data from the past 10 years and analyze what sells well or not. Recently, we looked at which pre shave creams or oils sell well. We compiled a Top-5 of the best-selling pre shave products. This concerns sales data from the period 2010 through 2020 from our NL webshop for the Netherlands and Belgium. Of course, we also looked at the figures for 2020. And here we see exactly the same top-5.
What is a pre shave?
We've said it before: "A preshave product is not necessary but can contribute to extra shaving comfort." Good preparation beforehand ultimately results in less trouble afterward. Well, that's true for many things in life. So that also applies to shaving. A preshave product provides extra protection during shaving. This reduces the chance of shaving irritations during and after shaving.
If you have dry skin and suffer a lot from dry, chapped skin after shaving, then you will benefit greatly from a good preshave oil. Or if you have heavy beard growth, a preshave ensures that the beard hairs become a bit softer.
Top-5 pre shave products
Based on the number of items sold, below is a summary from number 1 to 5.

The price-quality ratio is very good: it is very effective and you need little for a comfortable shave. That is why this item is popular. What we see is that once customers buy this pre shave oil, they always use it. It becomes part of the regular shaving ritual.
It is a thin oil and therefore easy to apply and spread. The advantage is that it quickly absorbs into the skin and does its job well. It actively protects and nourishes the skin. This pre shave product has a light subtle citrus scent and contains, among other things, avocado oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera extracts, bearberry extracts, and bergamot oil.
4. Bluebeards Revenge pre shave oil
The pre-shave oil from the English brand Bluebeards Revenge is a thick, viscous oil. This provides a nice slick layer and extra protection during shaving.
